Every four years, tens of thousands of Scouts, from every corner of the
world, gather in a tented city for two weeks of activities and adventure!
This is a fantastic event where up to 40,000 Scouts live and learn together.
Aimed at 14 to 17 year olds, Scouts attend the event in national groups,
called Contingents. Each contingent is made up of Units which contain 36
Scouts and four Leaders. The participants will live in tents on sub-camps
with Units from all over the world. The young people will have the time of
their life and come back different people. We have young people attending
the Jamboree from right across Petworth &
Pulborough district - Billingshurst (Kyle
- a former Parbrook Cub), Fittleworth, Pulborough, Sullington & Storrington,
Chimera ESU (Ifold) and Earth ESU (Easebourne) as well as Adrian Colenutt
and Sarah McNeil (Contingent Leaders) and George Agate and Kath Bridger
(International Service Team).
We found out more about the Jamboree and met Rick and Kyle at our pack meeting on 19 October
2010.
We're now wearing the Jamboree badge on our uniform. According to the
official
chart, it should be worn where it says "occasional badges" which is above
the world membership badge. However, on a Cub sweatshirt there isn't much room
so if it doesn't fit there then the alternative location is at the bottom of the
sleeve (i.e. the cuff end) of the arm that has the District and County badge
(i.e. not your activity badges) on it. We'll be wearing the badges until Summer
2011 when the Jamboree takes place. Our purchase of these badges for you to wear
has helped raise money for the West Sussex Scouts that are going to Sweden.
