Programme :
Parent's rota
Apology
We are sorry that some of the Cubs came home incredibly muddy after our trip
into the woods this week. It is amazing how little boys can detect a muddy
patch at 100 paces.
Our next meeting: Tuesday 1 July
Programme:
With no Akela this week we will be looking at camp preparations with Raksha.
We will also be swimming up our visiting Beavers.
Duty six: Yellow
Parent helper: None. Please take your turn on our parents rota.
Billingshurst Show
Thank you to all that supported us at the Billingshurst Show. We had 18 Cubs
on our float and our tombola stall made £67 so thank you for donating prizes.
Don't forget to send Akela your photos of the float.
Last chance to design the badges for Campalot 2009
In 2009 we will have the chance to attend a West Sussex wide
County cub camp - the Cubs Campalot. As part of the planning, the county is holding a competition to design 2 badges
that will be used during the camp. You can print off
the entry form (this is a pdf version).
Please bring your design into us in time for us to take it to the
District meeting on Monday 14 July.
Summer
Camp
Our Summer Camp will take place in August. We currently have 16 Cubs on the
list that have paid their £5 deposit. If you think you are on the list but have
not paid a deposit then your place will be at risk. We are limited to 20 Cubs
and hope to fill all the places. The cost of the camp has now been fixed at £55.
This amount has been subsidised from our funds using money we raised by bag
packing in Budgens at Christmas. You can get on our guest list by using our
online
booking form.
Active kids
This year we have been collecting the
Sainsbury's active kids vouchers.
By 17 June thanks to a late rush we had
collected a very respectable 2575 vouchers so thank you to all that
brought some in. We now have to wait until the autumn when the equipment is sent
out.
Doing badge work at school
We have been asked whether Cubs can earn badges as a result of work they do
at school, e.g. the recent work done on astronomy at the Junior School. The
leaders have discussed this and feel that in badges should not automatically be
awarded for this. In the same way we do not give nights away badges for nights
you may go camping with your family. The exception to the rule is things like
the musicians badges where you work to achieve a set standard which is then
signed off by your music teacher. Of course school work may still count towards
badges but you would need to bring it in to be validated and may need to do some
extra work to gain the badge.
Online shopping
By clicking through to your shopping site from
www.buy.at/parbrook we get commission
on your purchases. A new commission cheque (for £20) has just arrived so that
takes our total raised to over £80. Not bad when it is money for nothing.
Now you can see where we have been
raising our money.
It doesn't cost you more so please try and remember to click
through. We have
new merchants taking us to over 100 shops in our scheme. They include Ikea, Waterstones, HMV,
Amazon, CD-wow, play.com, Mothercare, Asda (not food shopping), Tesco direct
(not food shopping), Game, MFI and Marks & Spencer (not food). You can also earn
money when you
book your holiday with
sites like Haven, Butlins, Expedia, Siblu, Premier Travel Inn, Travelcare, Superbreak and Hertz.
